DeepShrink or Day One?
Day One is a journal for life, and since 2026 its Gold plan adds an AI Daily Chat. Here is how it differs from DeepShrink, and when Day One is the better choice.
| What you might look for | DeepShrink | Day One |
|---|---|---|
| What it is for | Thinking things through, with notes it keeps for you | Keeping a journal: entries, photos, places and more |
| An AI to talk things through with | Yes, in modes from Just listen to Challenge me | Daily Chat, on the Gold plan |
| Memory you can read and correct | Yes, and every note shows the words it came from | Partly: an editable Bio, but chat memories cannot be read one by one |
| Nothing it works out about you is used until you keep it | Yes | No |
| Structure beyond writing | 93 step-by-step techniques, plus journeys and short resets | More than 50 templates and a daily prompt |
| End-to-end encryption | No | Yes, on by default, paused while the AI reads an entry |
| Streaks | None | Yes, and the pop-ups cannot be fully switched off |
| Crisis lines | Local lines for the countries it lists, never behind a paywall | None found |
| Price | Free during the beta; then 19.99 € a month or 149.99 € a year on the web, or 22.99 € or 169.99 € in the App Store and Google Play (planned) | A free Basic plan; Gold, with the AI chat, $74.99 a year |
When Day One is the better choice
If you want a journal to keep for decades, Day One is the better tool: photos, video, audio and maps, many journals, apps on every platform including Windows and Apple Watch, and end-to-end encryption on by default. Its free plan is generous. DeepShrink is a companion you think out loud with first, and its Journal is simpler.
